Can anyone help?

I recently picked up a Canon Super 8 camcorder from a Salvation Army truck but was upset to find a piece missing. It appears to be a cap or something found at the bottom of the handle. Does anyone know where to search for such a piece? Also perhaps an instruction booklet. The only markings on the camera read: Canon Auto Zoom 518 SUPER 8

Just a guess but is the "missing peice" threaded on the inside? If so it is probably the tripod mount, on many supee's this threaded mount is found on the bottom of the handle and your tripod head would have the part that screws into this.
